yup, people watching is fun. problem is, you can't test your hypotheses without actually TALKING to the people you're playing the deduction game on. best way to do that is a three-man team with recorded communications. 2 observers and 1 survey taker. your observers have a memorized list of traits and other things they are required to guess. job. age. married. single. children. childless. local. foreign. you choose the requirements. your OP (observation post) picks people out of the crowd and give their impressions. then those two direct their survey person to the target of the deductions and the survey taker asks, "Excuse me, i'm taking a survey for (something based on the location). Would you mind filling out this form for me? Here's a clipboard and a pen, it will just take a few minutes out of your day." of course the survey is seeded with questions that the answers for will determine if your observations were correct. the rest of the questions are actual survey questions you might find somebody polling that certain area for answers.
